Suicide Prevention for Firearm Instructors and Retailers
More than half of all suicide deaths in the United States occur with a firearm. In Connecticut, firearms are the second leading cause of suicide death. Reducing access to firearms by safely storing, restricting or removing firearms is one of the most effective ways to reduce suicide risk across all age groups.
The Connecticut Suicide Advisory Board, with NSSF input, has developed a concise slide deck that instructors can insert into their training courses to teach their students about suicide prevention—things such as warning signs, how to start a conversation that can save a life, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and more.
