Resources for Individuals and Families
Several resources exist to educate, help, and support individuals who believe they have a problem with gambling – or think they may be developing a problem. Resources also exist for family members and friends whose loved one has a problem with gambling. You don't need to go through this alone. Help is available. Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Problem Gambling Services - The DMHAS Problem Gambling Services division provides a comprehensive network of problem gambling prevention, treatment, and recovery services for individuals and families in Connecticut and promotes informed choices around gambling behavior.
Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) - CCPG staff address gambling-related harm through prevention initiatives, community outreach, education programs, advocacy, and by connecting people with resources. CCPG provides Connecticut's only 24/7 helpline, offering support, resources and referrals through phone, text, or chat.
Treatment
Problem Gambling Helpline and Chat - Individuals and family members who are adversely affected by gambling behavior can access the helpline 24 hours a day, seven days a week via phone, text, or chat. Trained helpline specialists offer strategies to reduce harm or connect individuals or family members with treatment and support options. Bettor Choice Gambling Treatment Programs - Bettor Choice Programs are gambling-specific treatment programs funded by the State of Connecticut. Services are offered at more than 14 locations in Connecticut through community agencies. Programs offer a variety of outpatient services including individual, group, peer recovery support, medication, and budget counseling for both individuals impacted by problem gambling and affected loved ones. Self-Help/Support
Voluntary Self-Exclusion - Voluntary self-exclusion (VSE) allows a person to request to be excluded from legalized gambling activities in Connecticut. Individuals enrolled in VSE cannot access gambling activities available through online platforms and/or physical casinos. Click here to learn more.
Gamblers Anonymous (GA) - GA is a 12-step support group for men and women who want to stop gambling. By sharing experiences, strength, and hope, group members support one another in their efforts to stop gambling. Groups are offered virtually and in-person.
Problem Gambling Support Group (PGSG) - PGSG is an online support group for individuals struggling with problem gambling. PGSG provides people with a space to engage in open, honest, and thoughtful conversations about their recovery goals as well as their challenges.
Gam-Anon - Gam-Anon offers in-person and online support groups for individuals who are adversely affected by a loved one's gambling behavior. By sharing experiences, strength, and hope, group members help one another address and cope with the impact that their loved one's gambling has on their lives.
